Vision and Goals
Mystic Tides Ocean Retreat is currently under construction on a no-rush schedule. Guests can look forward to visiting one of the most beautiful, remote and pristine places on the planet, but if you would like to visit sooner… contact us!
The lasting change we would like to contribute to is:
Sharing our home with visitors interested in world-class scuba diving in the Astrolabe Reef, research and education, and/or deep sea sport fishing.
Putting the land to good use to benefit generations to come – steward, honor, and develop the land responsibly using eco-sustainable living practices.
Engaging in an ongoing conversation with potential partners and guests interested in oceanography, Pacific Island history, anthropology and archaeology.
Providing employment opportunities for local Fijians.
First steps:
Complete construction of the main building.
Build a website that:
defines our vision and goals
demonstrates our ongoing physical progress.
contains a blog for engaging in community dialog
History – Background
Brenton Reece is native Fijian and grew up in the capital city of Suva on the mainland island of Viti Levu. After Living in Sydney, Australia for many years Brenton returned to develop and improve this remote piece of land with no infrastructure. The land owned by Brenton is freehold.
We are engaged in goat farming, … fishing … woodcraft … playing music … building cottages … making delicious meals from the food we catch and grow … and so much more…
The Vibe
Many visitors to the Fiji Islands enjoy the experiences that the hotels and resorts provide, and the curated outings that they offer. Others want to grow out of their comfort zone and come to experience more of a genuine Fijian lifestyle. At Mystic Tides Ocean Retreat you can experience some of the best scuba diving in the world and also have an opportunity to experience living with the land, harvesting from the gardens, fishing in the ocean, and participating in our extended family in many other ways during your stay- if you wish. Or, play in the ocean the whole time you are here, that’s fine too!
We want guests to feel at home when they come here, and feel safe – so they can totally let go and relax.
The Fijian way of life is really different than what most people are used to. Many things will be totally new to you.
The vibe? ‘Do what you want without judgement.’ We don’t want people to feel like they have to do things they way we do, or feel like you ‘have’ to do anything at all, but we want you to feel encouraged to try new activities and customs if you like!
Music
We love to play music and have collected many types of musical instruments here over the years. Musicians have a good chance of finding an instrument here that they play. Both acoustic and electric.
Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, ukuleles, electric bass, banjo, bouzouki, bongos, harmonium, western flute, tambourine, shakers and other small percussion pieces.
All photos, with the exception of the scuba diving pics, were taken by the Mystic Tides crew – Kelly Durkin and Xavier, Brenton and Taylor Reece, and Bronwyn Wilde-Reece.
The scuba photos were sourced from Unsplash. Many thanks to the following photographers:
There are only a small handful of accommodations available in and around the Astrolabe reef region. They provide exceptional luxury accommodations, albeit at a high nightly rate. If you are looking for longer stays or repeat stays, we can make arrangements to suit your needs.
In addition, we are open to discussions with those who might be interested in partnering on a permanent oceanography research lab or educational retreat facility on the site.
